World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Sunday, April 25th, 2021
Click prayer card for downloadable versions
The purpose of this day, set aside annually on the 4th Sunday of Easter, also known as “Good Shepherd Sunday,” is to fulfill the Lord’s instruction to “ask the master of the harvest to send laborers for the harvest.” (Lk 10:2b) Please join in praying the Augustinian Prayer for Vocations found in the prayer fold card, Prayer in the Augustinian Tradition (English, Spanish).

In his message for this 2021 World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Pope Francis reminds all of us, “Only by abandoning ourselves confidently to grace, setting aside our own programs and comforts, can we truly say ‘yes’ to God. And every ‘yes’ bears fruit because it becomes part of a larger design.”

SAINT EZECHIEL

"Christ made himself an example of the life we live now by his labors, his temptations, his suffering, and his death. In his resurrection he demonstrates the life we will live after death. Without him all that we would have known about human life is that we are born and we die. We would not have known that anyone could rise from the dead and live forever."

-Commentary on Psalm 60, 4

Peru Communities Join in Remembrance
The members of the Vicariate of Peru held a Mass via Zoom to mark the one month anniversary of the passing of Fr. Joe Girone, O.S.A., who served for five years in Trujillo, Peru. It is of religious custom in Peru to remember the recently deceased at Mass on their one week, one month and one year anniversaries. However, due to the COVID-19 quarantine restrictions, communities could not be together physically.

The Mass was presided by the Regional Superior (Vicar) Fr. Ramiro Castillo, O.S.A., from San José Obrero parish where Fr. Joe served.

Please join the Augustinian Defenders of the Rights of The Poor (A.D.R.O.P.) virtually for our annual Mass of Thanksgiving.

SAINT RUPERT

"If you recall that you have neglected to make up with someone, then wake up and shake off your listlessness. If you are so keen to exact payment from your debtor, just think for a moment that you are God’s debtor. If you are ashamed to ask someone to forgive you, overcome this bad sort of shame with a good sort of fear, so that with destructive animosities terminated, with them finally dead, you yourselves may live."

SAINT PAUL MIKI AND COMPANIONS

"On the cross the Lord made the great exchange. There the purse which held our price was opened, for when the soldier’s spear opened his side, the price of the whole world poured forth. Thus he purchased the faithful and the martyrs. But the faith of the martyrs has been tested; their blood is the proof. They paid back the price Christ paid for them, thus fulfilling the words of Saint John: Just as Christ laid down his life for us, we too must lay down our lives for our brothers."
