On Tuesday evening, May 23, 2017, Fr. Frank Horn, O.S.A., gave a presentation to members of the Bonner-Prendergast High School community, explaining the Cause for Father Bill Atkinson’s Beatification and Canonization, which had been formally opened following the celebration of the Eucharist by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput on April 24, 2017, at Saint Thomas of Villanova Church. Fr. Horn was joined by fellow Augustinian Robert Hagan, O.S.A., as well as Atkinson family members Joan Mullen, Fr. Bill’s sister and Janine Zozaya, Fr. Bill’s niece.
Father Bill, not only attended Msgr. Bonner High School, he was a member of the faculty for nearly 30 years. Father Horn was principal of Msgr Bonner High School while Father Bill was a teacher there. Father Horn gave a powerpoint presentation and explain the process that is now officially underway with the opening of Father Bill’s Cause. His sister, Joan Mullen, spoke about Father Bill’s determination, despite the challenges he faced, of becoming an Augustinian priest; his niece, Janine Zozaya, spoke of her memories of a loving uncle.
