Michael F. Gallagher, O.S.A.

1802 – 1869 (August 25)

Michael Francis Gallagher was born in Dromore, Ireland, in 1802, the son of Eugene Gallagher and Catharine Hughes. He left Ireland for the United States at the age of 18, studied for the priesthood under Bishop Francis Kenrick for the Diocese of Philadelphia, and was ordained by him on May 25, 1837, at St. Mary’s Church in Philadelphia. Father Gallagher served at Brownsville on the missions, where he built the "Historic Old Saint Peter's Church," and at other stations in western Pennsylvania until 1848.

Stephen R. Fogarty, O.S.A.

1909 – 1998 (August 24)

Stephen R. Fogarty, son of Joseph Fogarty and Anne Marie Hogan, was born October 7, 1909, in Staten Island, New York. Upon completion of his elementary education there, Stephen attended high school at Augustinian Academy, Staten Island, earning his diploma in 1926. He was received into the novitiate on August 15, 1926. He professed simple vows on August 16, 1927 and solemn vows on October 8, 1930.

John P. Fahey, O.S.A.

1858 – 1929 (August 21)

John Patrick Fahey, son of James Fahey and Anna Holland was born at Valley Falls, New York, on January 26, 1858. He studied in public schools in Pittstown, N.Y., after which he entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1877. He made his simple profession of vows on January 29, 1878 and solemn profession of February 2, 1881. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 1881, by Bishop Jeremiah Shanahan of Harrisburg, in the Church of the Vincentians in Germantown, Pa.

Emmet Ambrose Flynn, O.S.A.

1897 - 1941 (August 19)

Emmet Ambrose Flynn, son of James Flynn and Emma Gormley, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 8, 1897. He received his education in Philadelphia’s parochial schools and at Villanova Prep. He entered the novitiate at Villanova on June 24, 1917, and professed simple vows on July 23, 1918. He was solemnly professed on June 25, 1922. On September 22, 1923, he was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Michael Crane at Villanova.

Lawrence C. Gallen, O.S.A.

1929 – 1995 (August 18)

Lawrence Chevrier Gallen was born in Eastport, Maine on August 11, 1929 of Francis L. Gallen and Mary Virginia Chevrier. Following his primary education he attended Western High School, Washington, DC, and upon graduation entered Villanova University from which he graduated magna cum laude in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1952 he enlisted in the US Navy and served as engineering officer and executive officer on a destroyer, the USS F.M. Robinson DE 220.

William V. Donovan, O.S.A.

1896 – 1959 (August 18)

William Vincent Donovan, son of William Donovan and Mary O’Connell, was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on January 1, 1896, and was baptized in St. Mary’s Church on January 12th of the same year. He entered St. Rita Hall, Villanova, Pennsylvania, in 1912, was received into the novitiate on June 19, 1913, professed simple vows on June 19, 1914 and solemn vows on June 24, 1917. He was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Dougherty on May 29, 1920, in the Cathedral of Philadelphia.

Jerome D'Ambra, O.S.A.

1885 – 1963 (August 18)

Jerome D’Ambra was born on October 7, 1885 in Foro d'Ischia, Naples, Italy, one of six sons of Giovanni D'Ambra and Loretta Castagliolo. After immigrating to the United States he lived for many years in Philadelphia, where he was employed as a shoemaker, and became well acquainted with the friars at his parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, South Philadelphia. He entered the Order on May 29, 1931, and was vested on May 22, 1935. He made profession of vows on May 23, 1936 at New Hamburg, NY before Father Lorenzo Andolfi, Commissary at the time of the Italian Vice-Province. His solemn profession took place on July 4, 1939 at Our Lady of Pompeii in Dobbs Ferry, where he spent 20 years.

John F. Burns, O.S.A.

1895 – 1976 (August 17)

John F. Burns, son of Joseph Burns and Teresa Leonard, was born in Albany, New York on December 2, 1895. He was received as a novice at Villanova, Pennsylvania, on June 19, 1913 and professed simple vows in the Order on June 19, 1914. He was solemnly professed on the same day in 1917 and following studies, was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Dennis Dougherty at the Philadelphia Cathedral on May 29, 1920.

Robert F. Andrews, O.S.A.

1929 – 2010 (August 15)

Robert Francis Andrews, was born on March 25, 1929, in Provincetown, Massachusetts, one of two sons and one daughter of Edward B. Andrews and Annie May Bragg. He was baptized on April 11, 1929, at Saint Peter the Apostle Church, Provincetown. He began his elementary education at Provincetown Public School and then, from 1935 until 1943, at Our Lady of Good Counsel School, Staten Island, New York. He attended High School at Augustinian Academy, Staten Island, from 1943 to 1947, and in his last year he became a postulant.

George L. Dermody, O.S.A.

1879 – 1956 (August 14)

George L. Dermody, son of George Dermody and Margaret Ryan, was born in Matteawan, New York, on January 31, 1879. He entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1898, made his simple profession of vows on May 13, 1899 and was solemnly professed on May 18, 1902. He was sent to Cuba as a deacon in order to teach at Colegio San Agustin, and was ordained to the priesthood there in the archbishop’s chapel in Havana, on June 6, 1903, by Michael Bernada, Archbishop of Santiago.

J. Raymond Collins, O.S.A.

1902 – 1988 (August 10)

John Raymond Collins was born August 12, 1902 in Troy, New York, to John T. Collins and Alice Ryan. He was baptized August 20, 1902, at St. Augustine Church there, and was confirmed there also, on April 21, 1912. He graduated from both St. Augustine Elementary School and St. Augustine High School, and was received into the novitiate of the Province on January 15, 1923. He professed simple vows on January 16, 1924 and solemn vows on January 16, 1927.

Joseph A. Flaherty, O.S.A.

1916 – 1993 (August 8)

Joseph Anthony Flaherty was born on June 13, 1916 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to James A. Flaherty and Mary A. Bradley. He was baptized on June 13 in the Church of the Gesu, attended the Gesu Parochial School, Saint Joseph's Preparatory School, and in 1938 received an A.B. degree from Saint Joseph's College. In the fall of 1938 he was accepted into the Augustinian novitiate in New Hamburg, New York. He professed simple vows on October 31, 1939, and three years later made his solemn profession at Villanova College, Villanova, Pennsylvania, where he was studying philosophy.

James G. Corrigan, O.S.A.

1914 – 1966 (August 8)

James G. Corrigan, son of John Corrigan and Annie Cullen, was born in the Bronx, New York, on January 18, 1914. He was baptized at Our Lady of Mercy Church in 1914, and was confirmed in 1920 at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, the Bronx, in which parish he received his elementary and high school education. He then studied for one year at Manhattan College.

Serafino M. Aurigemma, O.S.A.

1883 – 1972 (August 6)

Carmine Aurigemma was born in Monteforte, Avellino, Italy, on April 4, 1883. He was received as a postulant by the Order’s Congregation of San Giovanni a Carbonara in October 1897, and entered the novitiate at the convent of Madonna del Buon Consiglio in Naples on April 5, 1898. He made his simple profession on April 9, 1899, taking the name Serafino, and solemn profession on February 2, 1904. He was ordained into the priesthood at the age of 22 on October 8, 1905, by Bishop Ernesto Angiulli, auxiliary bishop of Naples, in the chapel of Villa Driscoll in Naples.

Patrick J. Campbell, O.S.A.

1890 – 1969 (August 2)

Patrick J. Campbell, son of Patrick Campbell and Katherine Heney, was born in South Philadelphia on December 13, 1890. Among his siblings were three sisters who became members of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Patrick received his early education in South Philadelphia’s Sacred Heart Parochial School and Roman Catholic High School. After obtaining his bachelor degree at Saint Joseph's College, he was received into the Order June 22, 1911, professed simple vows on June 22, 1912, and solemn vows on June 25, 1915. In September 1912 he was sent to Rome, but because of World War I he returned to the States to finish his theological education. He was ordained on May 17, 1916, in Philadlephia’s Cathedral by Archbishop Edmond Prendergast.

William K. Cornell , O.S.A.

1941 – 1976 (July 31)

William Kirby Cornell was born on Staten Island, New York, on May 18, 1941, to William Cornell and Mary Kirby, and received baptism at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church there five days later on May 23rd. He received his early education at the Augustinian parish school of Our Lady of Good Counsel and at Augustinian Academy. He entered the novitiate in New Hamburg, New York, on September 9, 1959 and professed simple vows on September 10, 1960.

William E. Farrell, O.S.A.

1924 – 1973 (July 30)

William Elmer Farrell was born in Rochester, New York on April 23, 1924 to James Farrell and Nora Burke. He graduated from Villanova in 1945 with a degree in Civil Engineering and entered the Navy's V-12 program as an ensign after graduation. Following World War II, he worked as a civil engineer for several years before entering the Order in 1950. He made his novitiate at New Hamburg, New York, and professed simple vows on September 10, 1951.

John J. Barthouski, O.S.A.

1877 – 1957 (July 30)

John Joseph Barthouski, the son of Joseph Barthouski and Mary Ludwig, was born in Lebau, Prussia, on December 27, 1877. While still young, he immigrated to the United States with his family, and received his early education at Saint Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls, New York. He entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania, in 1896, made his first profession of vows on May 4, 1897, and his solemn profession of June 7, 1900. Following studies, he was ordained to the priesthood at Villanova on January 19, 1901 by Auxiliary Bishop Edmond Prendergast.

John M. Fleming, O.S.A.

1862 - 1935 (July 29)

John Michael Fleming, son of Patrick Fleming and Mary O’Hara, was born near Dundas, Ontario, Canada on September 23, 1862. Following studies at the College of Saint Jerome in Berlin, Ontario, he entered the novitiate at Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1885, and made his simple profession of vows on May 4, 1886. He was solemnly professed on May 4, 1889, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 15th of the same year by Archbishop Patrick Ryan in the Philadelphia Cathedral.
