We can all connect to the appreciation felt when someone supports us by simply listening. A recent article in The New York Times, You Know Sister Jean, Meet Father Rob by Zach Schonbrun focuses on the influential role Father Rob Hagan, O.S.A., plays as Villanova basketball team’s chaplin. As mentioned in the article, Father Hagan provides an open space for these men to be heard. Father Hagan explains, “They have a million people telling them what to do.” However, when Father Hagan speaks, you can be sure the players listen. This past Palm Sunday’s pre-game prayer offered the team balance as they moved forward, “Don’t drink the perfume. You don’t get too high when things are going well, and you don’t get too low when things are not going so great.”
