In a visit to Saint Augustine Church in Olde City Philadelphia, Diane von Glahn, host of “The Faithful Traveler,” highlights this church, the first foundation of the Augustinians in the United States. One of Philadelphia’s oldest Catholic Churches, she recounts its founding, its destruction during riots in 1844, and its rebuilding. The church reopened in 1848. It was during the rebuilding that the the frescoes, recently designated as “historic” by the Philadelphia Historical Commission, were painted.
