Merrimack College Partners with St. Mary of the Assumption Parish for "Hands to Help"; Grand Opening August 30, 2015

In partnership with St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Merrimack College is opening Hands to Help, a community resource center, based out of the church's friary. This partnership joins two Augustinian entities in an effort to assist and empower the underserved members of our community. Hands to Help will include a drop-in center that will provide the following services: financial coaching, job search assistance, advising on the college application process, and adjusting to life in Massachusetts. In addition to providing these needed programs to the public, Hands to Help will act as an information referral site to other local non-profits and function as a place where people can make use of our resources, such as public computers. Our hope is to adequately support the people of Lawrence, as well as our students, to truly become an agent for change within the city. Merrimack College deeply values service and this resource center is a firmer commitment to our Augustinian neighbor in need.

“What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy.

It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear peoples' sighs and sorrows. That is what love looks like.”

Saint Augustine

Homily on the First Epistle of John 7.10
