Fr. Richard Cannuli, O.S.A., with relic
One of the habits that clothed the incorrupt body of Saint Rita is on permanent display and available for veneration daily, at the Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia, in South Philadelphia. The relic was given to the Shrine by the Augustinian Sisters of the Monastery in Cascia, Italy.
Fr. Richard Cannuli, O.S.A., director of the Villanova Art Gallery, lent his talents to help in the set up of the pedestal, along with parishioners Anthony Visco and Sam Bruno. Anthony Visco is the artist who sculpted the bronze statue of Saint Rita at the Shrine.
Along with other shrines in Philadelphia, the National Shrine of Saint Rita of Cascia will be particularly highlighted during the visit of Pope Francis for the World Meeting of Families, in September.
