John Joseph Corr was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 3, 1890, to Joseph Corr and Catherine Donegan. He received his early education at local public and Catholic Schools and spent one year at Roxbury Latin School. Later he worked as a clerk, before he entered Saint Rita’s Hall, Villanova, Pennsylvania, in 1907. He became a novice on June 25, 1910, at Villanova, and made his profession of simple vows on June 25, 1911, and was solemnly professed on the same date in 1914. John was ordained to the priesthood in the Cathedral of Philadelphia by Archbishop Edmond Prendergast on May 27, 1916.
Father Corr taught for one year at Villanova and then entered the parochial apostolate, serving in our parishes of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, the Bronx; Saint Augustine, Troy; Immaculate Conception, Hoosick Falls; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Staten Island; and Saint Patrick, Cambridge; all of these in New York. He also served in Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois, and in Andover and Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Father Corr was 64 and a member of Saint Mary’s Community, Lawrence, when he died at Bon Secours Hospital, Methuen, on September 29, 1954. Father Patrick Campbell was celebrant of the Requiem Mass on Saturday, October 2nd, at Saint Mary’s Church, and Father Philip Colgan was homilist. Father Corr is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrence. At his death, he was survived by a sister, Sister of Charity Marie Victoire of Convent Station, New Jersey, and two brothers, Dr. Joseph E. Corr and James F. Corr.
