Samuel E. D'Angelo, son of Angelo D’Angelo and Vittoria Maffei, was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on February 11, 1907. He entered Augustinian Academy on Staten Island, New York, as a postulant, and was received into the novitiate on September 9, 1928. He made his simple profession of vows on September 10, 1929, and solemn profession on September 10, 1932. After completing his studies at Saint Mary's Hall, Villanova, Pennsylvania, and at Augustinian College, Washington, DC, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 9. 1936 in Washington.
Father D'Angelo's first assignment was to San Agustin, Havana, Cuba where he served for three years. He was later stationed at Saint Rita Parish, Philadelphia, Pa; Saint James Parish, Carthage, N.Y.; the Assumption and Saint Mary's, Lawrence, Mass. and Our Mother of Consolation, Chestnut Hill, Pa. He also served in our schools of Villanova Prep, Ojai, and Saint Augustine, San Diego, both in California, and at Villanova University. In addition, he was a member of the Province Mission Band for a time. During World War II, he was Chaplain in the United States Navy.
Father D'Angelo was 54 when he died instantly on December 30, 1961 in Lawrence, Mass., from injuries received in an automobile accident, the victim of an intoxicated driver. Prior Provincal, James Donnellon, O.S.A., celebrated the Requiem Mass at Holy Rosary Church, Lawrence. Burial followed in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Lawrence.
