1907 – 1980 (April 23)

Giovanni Frediani was born in Borgo a Buggiano, Italy, on June 16, 1907. At age seven, he moved into the local Augustinian Seminary where his father was the cook. For the rest of his life, he lived in Augustinian communities. He professed his first vows in the Order on October 31, 1924, and his solemn vows on July 23, 1928, as a member of the Etrurian Province. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 16, 1930.

For the next two years, Father Frediani taught in the seminary that had been his home. The following year he came to the United States where he lived and worked for the rest of his life. He remained, formally, member of the Tuscan Province.
Father Frediani served one year as an assistant at Holy Rosary Parish, Lawrence, Massachusetts. In September, 1935 he was assigned to Saint Rita Parish, Philadelphia, where he spent the next 45 years of his life and ministry.

Father Frediani celebrated his golden anniversary as a priest in March 1980, just one month before his death. He died on April 23, 1980, after an extended illness. He is buried with Augustinians of the Tuscan Province in Italy.
