Feast Days of Saints Monica and Augustine
These past two days, August 27 and 28, we celebrated the memory of Saints Monica and Augustine, mother and son, who assisted one another along the path to holiness of life. Monica was certainly more intentional in doing so. Though long desiring Augustine's professional and material success, she nonetheless prayed, argued, and wept for his spiritual well-being. "She was twice a mother to me," Augustine wrote, " she brought me to birth, both in her flesh, so that I was born into this temporal light, and in her heart, that I might be born into eternal light." Augustine's contribution to Monica's growth in faith and love, on the other hand, was more indirect, precisely due to his stubbornness and waywardness, which made Monica pray all the more and place all her trust in God's grace, her own influence on her son being insufficient to bring him to the Lord.

17th Annual Cascia Classic
“Cascia Classic is a special day where we get to celebrate important things like family, faith and friends. Our golf outing was a little different this year — masks, social distancing, elbow bumps instead of hugs, but we managed to have a great day, and as usual Saint Rita and Fr. Bill Atkinson, O.S.A. provided beautiful weather. Not everyone was able to join us this year, but you were with us in spirit.” -Fr. Rob Hagan, O.S.A.

The Cascia Classic Committee and the Province’s Office of Advancement would like to thank all who participated in last Friday’s 17th Annual Cascia Classic Golf Tournament. Together, you helped to raise over $70,000 for Augustinian ministries! Save the date for next year’s tournament: August 20, 2021. View photos from this year’s Cascia Classic here. If you were unable to join us, it’s not too late to make a donation here.

“I am Ready.” by Br. Dan Madden, O.S.A.
“What happens over the course of formation—personal and relational growth— needs time, and therefore resources. I am grateful for my different formators and for the many growth-filled experiences formation has provided. Formation has shaped me into the Augustinian I am today. It has laid the foundation for a life of saying, “yes, I am ready,” even when I may find myself in uncomfortable and challenging situations. There is great peace in knowing that. Thank you for your prayers and for supporting me along this journey. It has made all the difference!”

A Message from Lacie Michaelson,
Executive Director of A.D.R.O.P
"Confusion, fear, and anxiety were major elements of the past year, especially this past Spring. While A.D.R.O.P. faced significant challenges and road blocks, we also find ourselves energized and motivated to adjust to this “new normal.” English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are now taught online, the Unity Clinic will soon reopen using telehealth options, and Adeodatus and Mary Mother of Captive meetings are now convened via zoom. While this past year was unlike any other, we’re pleased to continue our mission of building bridges between those who have skills and services and those in need. Thank you so much for all of your prayers and financial support, we depend on you, our community, and we’re so grateful."

Augustinian Volunteers Take Part in End of Year Retreat
While this year was anything but ordinary, the 20th class of Augustinian Volunteers completed their year of service with a retreat that took place from June 23rd- June 25th. Volunteers were still able to share meaningfully about their experiences of service and reflect on their experiences of community. Despite the challenges of the adaptations brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, the volunteers never lost their sense of humor!

"With minds and hearts provoked ...
we Augustinians recommit ourselves ..."
We Augustinian Friars of the Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova,
join the voices and prayers of countless people, shamed and outraged at the killing of Mr. George Floyd, to lament, as well, the failure of our nation to secure the full measure of justice to our black brothers and sisters, and to all who are denied human dignity. With our minds and hearts provoked by Mr. Floyd’s death, symbolic of so many lives destroyed by bigotry, racism and injustice, we recommit ourselves
- and invite all people of good will also - to the work of reforming policies and changing structures that impede freedom, justice, peace
and opportunity for all. As people of faith, we know that the teachings of Jesus on love and justice are unambiguous. May Jesus himself give us the will and the courage to live them faithfully.

The Augustinian Guild was established as a ministry of prayer so that we might share with others the spiritual riches of our religious community. Individuals enrolled in the Guild, both living and deceased, share in our Masses, prayers and works. Donations to the Guild, in turn, assist us in our Province Mission, in the care of elderly and infirm friars, and in the training of future members to our Order.

In the Chulucanas Vicariate (Peru) the coronavirus pandemic is hitting the infected people very hard, but also those families that depend economically on the work carried out day by day. New Video: Saint Rita of Cascia in Modern Life
In the midst of this pandemic, a lot of people are experiencing feelings of sadness, anxiety, fear, and isolation. Saint Rita, because of various events in her own life, dealt with all of these feelings too, and she pressed on because she deeply trusted in the Lord. That’s a great message to proclaim today and always. Let us be living witnesses of perseverance, hope, and deep faith in God, as modeled by Saint Rita of Cascia.

EWTN broadcasted Saint Rita's Feast Day Mass live yesterday. Even though people have had to take a rain check on visiting the Shrine in person this year, their virtual presence ensured us that the message and story of Saint Rita's life lives on!
